2020 International Democracy Day is marked

Pristina, 15.09.2020 – The Chair of the Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC), Skender Çoçaj, participated in the online seminar “The future we want to see – Democracy and Rule of Law in times of crisis”, organized by UNDP and the Assembly of Kosovo , where part of the panel were: Mrs. Vjosa Osmani, President of the Assembly of Kosovo, Mrs. Maria Suokko, UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Hilmi Jashari, People’s Advocate, and Mrs. Sarah Rattray, Global Human Rights Policy Specialist (UNDP New York).

Chair Çoçaj, regarding the topic “Impact of Covid-19 on the functioning of the judicial system and access to justice”, said that the Kosovo Judicial Council in order to ensure the continued functioning of judicial institutions in such circumstances, has drafted and approved the Emergency Plan for Crisis Management, has taken all measures recommended by the relevant Institutions dealing with the fight against the pandemic and has implemented the decisions issued by the Government of Kosovo regarding this issue, including the provision of staff with the necessary disinfectant materials, disinfection of work spaces in accordance with  instructions from the responsible institutions as well as placement of necessary equipment. We are also addressing the issue of online communication in order to overcome this situation.


This online meeting brought together practitioners in the field of human rights and rule of law who provided their views on the gaps exposed by the pandemic and the possibility of how they can be addressed in the future.
