The 239th meeting of the KJC is held

Prishtina, 29.09.2020 – The Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC) held its 239th meeting, chaired by Mr. Skender Çoçaj, KJC Chair, where were the items discussed and approved according to the agenda.

At the beginning of this meeting, the Chair  Çoçaj welcomed two (2) new members of the Council, newly elected by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Driton Muharremi and Vilard Bytyçi.

The meeting continued with the discussion on holding online trials, in which case Çoçaj said that the Council, in coordination with the presidents of the courts and with the support of the USAID-JSSP Program, is piloting online hearings in the basic courts. In this regard, the functioning of the judiciary in pandemic times and the increase of work activities in the courts were also discussed.

The Council approved the notification of the Department of General Administration – KJCS, for the retirement of one (1) judge in the Basic Court in Peja and the request for resignation from the position of the member of the Steering Council of the Academy of Justice, Judge Driton Muharremi, to continue the mandate as KJC member.

During this meeting, KJC members reviewed the request of the Minister of Justice, Selim Selimi, for the proposal of the Chairman of the Commission for Compensation of Crime Victims, and approved the extension of the mandate of Judge Nesrin Lushta.

The Council established the KJC Training Committee and the Court Administration Committee (CAC), approved the CAC recommendation regarding the avoidance of adjournment of hearings, and approved the CAC recommendation regarding the appointment of geodesy experts to the basic courts. Among other things, in this meeting, the decision of the KJC was revoked, which suspended the deadlines for reviewing the reports of the investigative panels. Finally, the Council continued the closed-door meeting to review three (3) disciplinary cases.
