Pristina, 12 December 2019 – Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC) strongly condemns the physical attack against the supervising judge of the Basic Court in Mitrovica – branch in Vushtrri, Mr. Rifat Blata.
The Council is concerned about the violence perpetrated against the supervising judge, Mr Blata, which is related to his official work. Such acts of intimidation against judges are intolerable and are taken very seriously.
These attacks are not only an interference to the fundamental principle of the independence of the judicial system, but also a violation of the law. Therefore, such attacks against the judicial system and KJC are of serious concern.
The Council stands firm with the judges, supports them in their independent work and encourages them to fulfil their constitutional and legal mission. The Council invites the competent authorities to take all appropriate action on this case and at the same time commits itself to fulfilling the mission of the judicial institutions to ensure the rule of law in the Republic of Kosovo.
