Kosovo Judicial Council expresses its deep indignation regarding the threat made on Wednesday by a citizen against Judge Lutfi Shala. The Council considers that such cases are inadmissible and calls the responsible bodies to take all appropriate measures in addressing this issue.

Threats and attacks made against judges as the recent one, not only affect them individually or the judicial institution they represent, but also the core of the judicial system as a whole. This is because without a secure environment it is difficult to have an independent and impartial Judiciary. KJC ensures all judges of Kosovo that within its responsibilities together with other factors, will work further to create a safe working environment and encourages them to continue to perform their duties in accordance with the law with high professionalism and responsibility.

We inform you that on Wednesday at around 9:00 o’clock Mr. Shala a judge of the Basic Court in Gjakova – Branch in Malishevë was threatened while he was getting out of the court building by A. T. a citizen from Banja e Malishevës. The case was reported to the Police Station in Malishevë, and the suspect by a decision of the State Prosecution was detained for 48 hours.
