This Committee will assist judges with information and advice about ethical questions or issues identified for interpretation in relation to the Code of Professional Ethics for Judges and the Law of Disciplinary Procedure of Judges and Prosecutors. The committee will serve as a platform where judges can be consulted on how to handle future situations or behaviours that may be considered contrary to the Code of Professional Ethics for Judges. The Committee’s work and disciplinary process are separate and independent from each other. Opinions of the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee are given regarding future situations or conduct that may be considered contrary to the Code of Professional Ethics for Judges, unlike the disciplinary process involving possible investigations and hearings that examine and resolve complaints about judges’ alleged unethical conduct in the past.
