Basic Court of Prishtina, winner of the ‘Most Transparent Court’ award

Prishtina, 30.09.2020 – Mr. Skender Çoçaj, the Kosovo Judicial Council Chair, participated in the “Transparent Court” Award Ceremony organized by BIRN and FOL with the support of the USAID Justice System Strengthening Program (JSSP) , where the findings related to the monitoring of the publication of judgments by the courts of Kosovo were presented and as a result, the Basic Court in Prishtina was awarded the prize “Most Transparent Court”.

Mr. Çoçaj congratulated the President of the Basic Court in Prishtina, Aferdita Bytyqi, for her commitment to make this Court the most transparent in Kosovo.

“It is very important to increase transparency for the entire judicial system and with the commitment of all, the level of transparency will be at the highest level. The publication of judgments is very important, because it has happened that the courts do work hard, but we have not managed to convey it to the citizens as much as we are working. “I take this opportunity to thank USAID, in particular the Justice System Strengthening Program – JSSP and civil society for your continued contribution to increasing the transparency of the judicial system,” said Çoçaj.

USAID Office of Democracy and Governance Director Christine Davis congratulated the Pristina Basic Court on this great achievement and said that USAID will continue to support all courts in Kosovo as they continue to implement reforms that improve transparency, accountability, and services for the citizens of Kosovo.

The President of this Court, Aferdita Bytyçi, after receiving the award said that this award will continue to serve even further to increase the activities of the Court towards the increase of transparency through greater public information.

“The Basic Court in Pristina has managed in the first six months of 2020, to publish over 2,200 judgments on the web portal of the Kosovo judiciary. On this occasion, I thank all the staff for their commitment to the publication of the judgments “, said Bytyqi.
