KJC signs Memorandum of Cooperation for the Electoral Process

Prishtina, 01.09.2020 – At the ceremony organized by the Institute; Democracy for Development (D4D), a Memorandum of Cooperation for the electoral process was signed today, between the institutions dealing with the administration of elections and the review of electoral cases.

The Memorandum was signed by the Chair of the Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC), Skender Çoçaj, the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission, Valdete Daka, the National Coordinator for Corruption Cases from the State Prosecutor, Laura Pula, the Director of the Kosovo Police, Rashit Çalaj , Member of the Election Panel for Complaints and Appeals, Gyltene Sylejmani and Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Media Commission, Luan Latifi.

The purpose of this memorandum is to increase the level of cooperation of institutions engaged in electoral processes to prevent legal violations and to effectively investigate, prosecute and adjudicate all cases conflicting the laws, electoral rules or criminal offenses against the right to vote in all stages of the electoral process.

The KJC Chair, Mr. Çoçaj, said that the KJC is always committed to provide and create conditions for the development of an effective justice system, including the obligations arising from this process supported by this Memorandum of Cooperation, in order for the electoral processes to have normal developments, to be transparent, credible and democratic. “In this regard, the Kosovo Judicial Council undertakes and pledges that these cases will be treated with priority and will be judged without delay, as well as the efficient execution of all decisions related to election cases. As a Judicial Council, we are ready to give our contribution in every electoral process that will be held in the future, whenever required by us, implementing the legislation in force and the memorandum of cooperation which we are signing today “, said Çoçaj.
