The Basic Courts elect Avni Mehmeti as a member of the KJC

Pristina, 7 February 2020 – In the organization of the Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC), the judges of the Basic Courts voted today the election of a judge nominated as a Member of the Kosovo Judicial Council where the nominated candidates were: Avni Mehmeti , Burim Emërllahu, Mentor Bajraktari and Venhar Salihu.

With secret ballot, the judges of the Basic Courts elected their colleague Avni Mehmeti, a member of the KJC by a majority vote in the second round.

The selected from the ranks of the Basic Courts, judge Mehmeti is considered a member of the KJC, and in the following days he will be certified by KJC. His term as a member of the KJC is 5 years.

Biography of Judge Avni Mehmeti

Avni Mehmeti is a judge of the General Department – Criminal Division of the Basic Court of Mitrovica. Mr. Mehmeti graduated in 1999 from the Faculty of Law and completed the bar exam in 2004 as well as the postgraduate studies in the filed of legal criminal law. He has worked for two years as a legal officer (lawyer) at ProCredit Bank in Mitrovica, three years as a legal and training officer at the Kosovo Center for Public Safety Education and Development, and has followed a one-year practice in the District Court of Mitrovica.

He has also worked as a trainer at the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety-Vushtrri, the Kosovo Judicial Institute, the Kosovo Institute for Public Administration, the Kosovo Bar Association, etc. In July 2012 he was appointed as judge in the Basic Court in Mitrovica.
